Doctrine is very important for believers. It forms and establishes our beliefs about God, Jesus, the Holy Spirit, salvation, and man’s identity in God. If our doctrine is wrong, then our beliefs are wrong. Wrong beliefs can negatively affect our faith, our prayers, and our walk with the Lord. Ultimately, these erroneous beliefs can lead to eternal damnation. Below are a few scriptures that demonstrate the importance of proper doctrine.
Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the DOCTRINE OF CHRIST, hath not God. He that abideth in the DOCTRINE OF CHRIST, he hath both the Father and the Son. If there come any unto you, and bring not this DOCTRINE, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed: For he that biddeth him God speed is partaker of his evil deeds (2 John 9-11).
That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of DOCTRINE, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive; (Ephesians 4:14).
The world is filled with groups, organizations, and so-called churches whose doctrines are totally contrary to the Word of God. Many people believe doctrines that do not portray Christ properly. A cult will always attack the nature and deity of Christ. To prevent people from going to God and His Word for answers, they attempt to disprove that Christ is God. Therefore, these groups develop false doctrines and instruct people in deceptive teachings that dispel faith in Christ or adherence to Him.
As a new member and/or believer in Christ, it is critical that you have a basic working understanding of major doctrinal issues. Many other subjects could have been addressed in this book. However, if you are firmly established in the truths provided herein, then the other doctrinal issues will not be a problem.
Many Christians are being seduced and tossed to and fro by every wind of doctrine. Many are embracing these false teachings and are being swayed from the truth because they have not been grounded in the Word of God. We pray that this manual will help you establish spiritual roots so you will be unwavering in your faith.
