Salvation comes by belief and faith in Jesus Christ.  Belief is required to get saved.  Therefore, continuing in that belief is required to stay saved.

Many believe the phrase, “Once saved, always saved, no matter what.”Many believe that, even if a person discontinues his/her belief in Christ, God will still save them because of their initial belief in Him.  This means that if a person starts off as a Christian and later becomes a Muslim (which denounces Christ as Savior), they will still go to heaven.

This is not biblically correct doctrine. If God allows a person into heaven, even if he/she did not want to go, then it would be unfair and disrespectful of his/her free will.  We must CONTINUE believing in Christ.

In summary, if a person moves away from his/her faith in Christ, then he/she could lose or give away the salvation he/she had initially received.
